Simple Moon Rituals

Rituals are important. Using simple ceremonies to celebrate allows for us to reflect on what’s important. It is also a time when you can take a deep breath and set your attention to the matters at hand.

There are many kinds of ceremonies ~ life ceremonies such as weddings and funerals ~ momentous turning times in life such as graduations and job changes. Too, you can use the natural rhythms of the universe to set rituals. Seasonal ceremonies and moon ceremonies are among the most common. Moon Rituals come when the moon phase shifts.

There are many phases of the moon ~ four in particular are great times to create simple moon rituals around there meanings. By using the power of the new moon to ignite your inspirations and desires, you will infuse your life with natural cycles of the universe and work with these periods of time. Often, when you do, you discover that life flows with greater ease.

The phases of the moon to pay attention to include:

Waning Moons ~ a time of letting go, release and incubation.

New Moons ~ a time of fresh starts, new beginnings and rebirths.

Waxing Moons ~ a period of growth and manifestation of attainment

Full moons ~ a time of fullness and completion, the peak of clarity and understanding.

A simple Moon ritual can be created around each of these times.

This is a four step process of using the moon’s energy during each phase.

1) Write out your intention for the next phase ~ with the understanding of the above power. Ex: If it is a New Moon Ritual, write out your intentions of your goals; a full moon ~ write out gratitude for what has been created and for clairty to come to you during this time.

2) On the night of the moon cycle, Light a Candle ~ read your intention and then burn it.

3) Use a symbol that represents that time to you (a crystal, a piece of jewelry, a memorabilia item) and leave it out overnight so the energy of the moon can infuse it.

4) Re-energize your intention by keeping this symbol close to you over the next few days.

I believe in spirituality. I also believe that we must ‘walk our talk’ and not always be sitting in a space of deep meditation and reflection and ritual. Creating simple moon rituals to use to allow flow of energies into your life allows for both. It allows for reflection and it allows you to set your course and act upon it with empowered energy.

What simple rituals have you created. What rituals can you create around the moon phases to empower your goals?

  1. Laura, I always appreciate your specific suggestions on how to create rituals. They keep me from getting sucked into thinking that a ritual “should” be elaborate or take a long time. Thank you for making it easy!
