How to Get There from Here

Have you ever said to yourself “I have to Get There” ? I’m not talking about I have to get to the store to by groceries or I have to get there to see my doctor. I’m talking about saying something like  “I just have to get there.” or “When I Get there”  to yourself.

What did you mean by it? We have this notion that once we ‘arrive’ we will have this amazing epiphany ~ the gates of heaven will open up and we will be met by a hundred angels signing the “hallelujah” Chorus!  I know I’ve said this “Once I get this done, I’ll Get there.” But, when I ‘got there’ the gates did not open up ~ Thank Goodness!!!!!! 🙂 Is trying to Get There so important? Or is the getting there what really matters?

Robert Hastings, in The Station, wrote ‘tucked away in our subconscious minds is an idyllic vision in which we see ourselves on a long journey that spans an entire continent…..but uppermost in our conscious minds is our final destination.”  Yes, it’s important to know what the destination that you desire is. So, in fact, you can be on the RIGHT train.

Often times, though, we spend so much of our day LOOKING at the destination. How it will feel to get there, what it will be like to get there, what outcome WILL be ours when we get there. But, we forget to look at the path along the way. But, we forget to look around us. To stop and smell the roses. Or see if there is an alternative path that will offer even greater rewards. It only takes a moment to re-align your energies so that we can FIND those things that we are searching for at the destination right under our own noses!

Re-aligning to look at that path often gives us signs. It will be illuminated with flashlights that allow you to gain momentum when needed and to slow down your progress when danger lies ahead. All too often, we forget to look for these signs as the destination looms far ahead.  By trying to Get There, we don’t see the amazing miracles that make the journey magnificent.

What are you doing today to look at the path that LEADS to your destination? What signs will you see?

  1. Loved this one! I keep reminding myself to enjoy the journey. It’s a process, not a destination. Not always easy though to remember 🙂 I have always loved trains and been fascinated by them, so not surprised I was led here and read your post with that analogy 🙂
