Honoring yourself: it’s imperative to your soul’s desire

Your soul ~ it whispers to you. And when you don’t listen to it, it will retreat. It is always there in the background. The funny thing is that the less you honor yourself, the further it will retreat. The more you honor yourself, the louder the messages from your soul will become. To hear your soul’s desires, you must start by honoring YOU. The easiest way to start is to honor what you tell yourself you are going to do. Finding time to honor yourself may not be easy but it’s imperative.

soul, honor, committment

Find a Spot and Listen to the whispers of your inner wisdom.

Consider this: You have a doctor’s appointment and you don’t show up, what happens?  You have to pick up your child at an after-school activity and you forget. What happens? Both of these things or things like this rarely happen in your life, right? Why? They don’t happen because you’ve committed to other’s that you will be there and as an honorable, trustworthy person, you are there.  But, if they did happen, what’s the result? Mis-trust.

Consider this:  If someone keeps telling you that they are going to do something, what happens? You stop trusting that they will do that exact thing they are telling you they will do. You stop honoring them.

Consider this: You’ve committed to something ~ a diet, an exercise schedule, a reading club. What happens if you don’t show up? You don’t get the results you had been hoping for. You want the results. You are looking for the results. You tell yourself, you are going to work on getting the results. But, if you don’t show up, what happens? You don’t get the results but it goes so much deeper.

Honoring yourself is imperative to growing. You want to change &  grow personally. You want personal growth and development. You hear that whisper, deep within, calling to you. You want to trust your own intuition, your own inner wisdom. But, do you honor yourself?

Your soul loves you~ unconditionally. It will be there when you call upon it. But, if you say you are going to start listening to it and you don’t, it will become quieter. Why? Because your ego will start to celebrate your shortcomings. Telling you things like “you couldn’t do it, you’re not good enough, Who do you think your are? I knew you wouldn’t keep THAT commitment!” When you don’t honor your commitment to YOU, your ego steps in in all it’s glory and your soul? Your soul gets quieter.

When you don’t keep your appointments with yourself (Yes, remember that yoga class you were going to go to but didn’t? or that journaling time that you just could not get to? ) your soul gets quieter. It’s not that it doesn’t KNOW the truth, it does.

You just can’t hear it’s mini-whispers because the ego gets louder. It’s an inverse relationship. The ego lives strong when you do not honor yourself. When you honor yourself, the soul appears, and your ego gets quieter.

If you want to hear the inner whispers of your soul, if you want to discover your truest desires, if you want to have clear direction, if you want to have all the Joy that comes from this peaceful knowing, then you must START with honoring those commitments you make to yourself.

Isn’t it time, you honored yourself as you would your best friend? Isn’t it time, you honored awakening the light within?  Spring Equinox is just 10 days away. It, like New Years, offers a chance to begin renewed and refreshed.  What will you commit to doing to honor yourself as spring arrives? Your Soul will honor you for it!

  1. I love this reminder Laura. I feel like often we ignore our soul’s quiet urgings and put ourselves last. It’s important to make room for those kinds of things!

  2. It really is, isn’t it Dorothy?! I was so going to cancel my hair coloring today to get something done but when I put it all in perspective and allowed flow to happen ~ I did manage to in-joy getting all of my tasks done AND have dinner with my Papa!!! xxoo

  3. Such a great reminder, and so very true. It is sometimes so much easier to honor commitments we make to others than to ourselves, as if we are less important. I can feel when I start to fall back into that pattern, too, and it makes a huge difference in how I do everything. Thank you!

  5. Great post, Laura. I find that it is true for me. And, that keeping my word to me is most difficult of all.
