How to Choose a Journal to inspire your writing

Do you journal? I do. It’s one of the basic foundations of my spiritual practices and it begins with choosing the right journal.

Journaling allows you to awaken, align and accelerate hearing your soul’s whispers. Journaling ~ from your soul ~ gives you the ability to see yourself differently. It allows you to go beyond your own ego and view situations and life from a soul perspective. For some, this is a daunting process but it does not need to be. And, it begins with allowing the right journal to CHOOSE you!

journal, soul, wisdom

Let Your Journal Choose You!

What do I mean? Let a Journal Choose me? Really?! Yes. Really. See, I love journals so much that I used to spend a long time ~ a very, very, very LONG time looking for JUST the right one to be the next home for my sacred words. I know how powerful journals can be and I wanted to have the RIGHT one ~ each and every time. What I came to realize that in taking SO MUCH time to choose one ~ that ultimately, the energy of the journals got lost.

Everything has energy, right? So do journals. By taking so much time to choose one, they lost their energy to speak to me. (In essence, they got bored!) So, I stopped doing that and started letting them choose me! It’s fast, easy and I know the Right one is coming home with me ~ and I save time and energy!

You can easily have the RIGHT journal one choose you. It’s simple.
Here’s one method for allowing a journal to pick you:
1) Go to a Store that has a selection of journals ~ do not order them on line. You can not FEEL it’s energy through an on line purchase.

2) Stand in front of them, close your eyes and take a deep breath in.

3) Open your eyes and “Lean In” to the shelves in front of you.  Allow your energy to be drawn in to the shelf.

4) Connect to one or two when you are drawn to the shelf. Is one mis-placed on the shelf? Does the color, tone, texture, or image draw you in? Allow it to ‘speak to you.”

5) Pick one up and hold it. Connect to it. Does it inspire? If it FEELS like it RAISES your vibration, it is choosing you.  THIS is your Next Journal.  If two or more inspire you and you know how to use a pendulum, you can use this sacred tool to choose. If you can’t decide, buy both!

The reason that you want to allow a journal to choose you is that you want to be INSPIRED by it.

When a journal inspires you, when it feels good, when you have connected to it, you are more apt to write in it daily. I’ve had and clients of mine have had journals that they feel ‘so-so’ about and writing in it can become a task. Soul Wisdom Journaling is an art to be practiced not a task to do and so you want a journal that you just can’t wait to get your hands on to write your soul’s whispers in!

Do you journal? Yes?  How have you chosen your journals before? No? When you see a shelf of journals, try using these steps and see if one jumps out and inspires you to start!!!!

  2. This is crazy… But that is exactly what happened to me several months back. I was in a local shop to make A purchase for a client… And while I had no plans on buying anything for myself while I was there ( I was working, not playing ) I saw from across the store the spine of a journal… I had to walk over to it. I picked it up, was mesmerized by its beauty… But put it back because …. Again I wasn’t in there to buy anything. I had lots of journals hat were either half filled at home or given to me by friends… But alas the calling was too strong! And that has become my opportunity gratitude journal. Almost all opportunities I have listed in that journal have come true… Crazy awesome energy. I’m so glad you reminded me of the power of energy in everything around us…

  3. What a great post. I love journals and often make my own. And I have found that certain journals want to be used for certain things. They do talk to you.

  4. I have to admit I am more inclined to write when I have a beautiful journal to write in! I know for me the type of journal I choose is also important. I need pages that lay flat or I get annoyed by them lol Lately I’ve been separating my journals into themes and have felt a great deal of energy flowing from that.

Bonnie! So am I and so are my clients ~ inspiring journals ~ one of the BEST investments that brings about such lessons and joy!!!! And, I used to be one that had to have the pages laying flat ~ but have seemed to shift from that lately 😉

  5. Laura, I have been doing this since you first taught me about it in March. It is very powerful and I too like Kelly now have two special journals each selected as you taught. The energy of different journals, each with intention & purpose have helped me to hone my intuition along with the many things I learned at your spring retreat. Hope your summer event is amazing – I am sure it will be.

  6. Journaling is an important tool to have in life! All of my clients, but especially my clients that struggle with difficult issues, like infertility, find benefit from journaling.

As do mine, Dorothy!!! It may not be easy to start ~ but once hard now easier ~ and particularly in your field where one needs to release challenges to be able to invite in precious bundles of Joy ~ i can see it being so very beneficial!!!

  7. I love journaling and I purchase a journal like I would a new stone or crystal. I agree with Lisa it is an essential for our soul’s journey.

Martha! I love that analogy ~ choosing a journal like a stone or crystal. One thought ~ I don’t use the word purchase when it comes to a sacred tool. It has a ‘perception’ of ownership. I believe that sacred soul tools are gifts that are given to us that we care take as we would a child, a partner or a parent not own 🙂 Hope that little subtlety helps!

  9. I do journal every morning. A very cherished time for me. And it is true… it is so much easier when I love the feel of the book. And it is is also true that I become very overwhelmed when I need to pick one from all those choices. Your steps are a great way to practice listening to my intuition – thank you!… and I can see where I can apply this to other areas and where I do this already. Weird how I compartmentalize “guidance” – when it is there to use all the time. Thank you!

You are not alone, Tricia, when it comes to compartmentalizing guidance. Soul Wise Living tools can be carried from aspect of life to another! Let me know how these tips work the next time you go to choose a journal. I’d love to know!!! 🙂

  10. What an interesting thought, to let the journal choose you! I normally use spiral bound notebooks with colorful covers for my journaling, nothing special about them, other than the outer cover. I normally gravitate to strong primary colors, stripes and the like. I’ve never been called to a particular journal. Next time I go to B&N, I will try to see if any one in particular goes: Yoohoo, here I am… to me.

    Laura Clark Reply:

Oh my Lilia!!! Nothing special about ‘colorful cover journals’ I think NOT!!!! You gravitate toward them for a specific reason; perhaps journaling on that will bring great insight!!!!! And, let me know about your next trip to B&N ~ I’d love to hear about any call you might get!
