Soothe your Emotions with Water & Re-align Your Intuition

Emotions. They are a part of our human experience no doubt. They do not need to define who we are. Indeed, we are spiritual beings with innate wisdom and intuition to guide and serve us. When we act upon our emotions and not this wisdom, we often delay joy & abundance. It’s easy to sooth our emotions and re-align with our inner wisdom simply by using the element of water.

Go jump in the lake

Water is the element that is associated with our emotions. And we can utilize it to soothe them and connect with our inner wisdom to take the next best steps in our lives. Acting upon our innate wisdom always is the best response. How often have you acted upon your emotions and ended up in a heap of trouble? Be honest! Simply by focusing on the water around us, we can soothe these emotions that get us into trouble and set out upon the best path guided by your inner gps.

How many times have you heard or used the expression “Go Jump in the lake and chill out” when emotions have gotten the best of someone? It’s our natural way of saying use water to calm down and re-align. “Chilling out” can be done a number of different ways. You can simply go wash your face or have a glass of cool water. Both of these simple acts will soothe your emotions. In this peaceful state, you will be better able to hear your intuition. This seems like such an easy concept. Just go jump in a lake but when we are in the middle of a highly charged emotional experience, we often forget to use our wisdom as a guide.

It’s summer in the Northern Hemisphere and there are plenty of ways to use water to soothe your emotions:

Do so with the INTENTION that you will be calming your emotions. Use an affirmation such as “With this water, I soothe my emotions and connect to my intuition.” It will do wonders for you, allow you to re-align with your inner wisdom, act based on your best intentions. All of this leads to having greater peace, joy and abundance in your life.

What ways have you used water, without even knowing it, to soothe your emotions?

  1. Laura the water element is especially close to my heart. I grew up living close the Great Lakes and now I live near the Pacific Ocean. It’s a real toss up for me to say if the ocean or the forest soothes me more. I think the power of the ocean or any large body of water is incredibly humbling and encompassing. I love your ideas of how to bring more water play into our lives though! Wonderful ideas.

  2. Laura, the photograph of your pet jumping into the water was an elixir for the heatwave we are experiencing in Delhi. 🙂

I love water right from my childhood and my Montessori School report card states that I loved activities involving water – so I was an ace hand washer. I discovered the report a few years ago while going through my late father’s papers. It makes sense. At a sub-conscious level, I still love to do the dishes and yes, I feel rejuvenated after that activity.

On a conscious level, I always have a flask of water with me and use water to remove negativity that may have attached itself to me with a shower in the evenings. At that time, I visualize and keep telling myself that I am removing negativity from my person and being restored to my Buddhahood state with the water cleansing. It makes a big difference.

  3. First of all, I LOVE the doggie leaping into the lake. Who says they’re “dumb” animals?

I find that simply knowing water is available to me is very calming, whether it’s a swimming pool, a fountain, or the nearby Cedar River.

  4. I’ve always been drawn to water. Whenever I have had times of stress in my life, I have simply sat by some water to begin to feel better. Perhaps that is why I try to always go on vacation where there is water, as it truly rejuvenates me.

  7. Such a great reminder Laura! I know you have taught me this before, but it helps to hear it again. And with the reminder I am setting the intention to take more walks along the river and canal by my house. It is only a 5 minute drive away and yet so much more calming than walks around my neighborhood! Thank you!

  8. You know I love the water – you dubbed me the mermaid! I am instantly calm when I am around water and if I spend a few hours at the beach I must have a new notebook because the ideas do not stop…..

  9. This is awesome Laura! But you forgot my favorite water-based soothing activity – taking a bath (with bubbles for bonus points!) I find this very interesting because I am a highly emotional person, and I have always loved baths. There are some nights when I can’t go to sleep without soaking in water first, but I never thought of it from this perspective. Wonderful!

Ahhhhhh ~ the proverbial BATH!!!!!! Yes. We have a wood burning hot tub….silent and mystical…how could I have forgotten!!! Thanks for the reminder 🙂

  10. I am so grateful to live on the coast and have daily opportunities to walk on the beach, connecting to the earth and water elements. Indeed water is so healing and soothing and the negative ions of the ocean waves can transform any intense emotion for me and connect me to my intuition! I love this post and the invitation to intentionally use water to soothe our emotions. Thank you so much Laura!
