How to Use the Full Moon for Releasing

Moms & Full Moons. What do they have in common? A lot more than you may think. The Moon pulls on Mother Earth the same way a child will pull on it’s mother. Yet, there are often times in life when a child wishes to be released from it’s mother’s influence. The Full moon is a time of releasing and you can see how that correlates.

My Mom’s birthday is this week. She also passed forward during a full moon ~ which happens to correlate with her birthday. We had a very push me~pull me relationship. She taught me so much when she was here. Truth be told, I’ve learned more from her since her passing forward. She held onto so much as a mom and a woman. I see how had she had been able to release some of the things that she held onto, she’d have been a much happier person. And, so from this, I’ve learned to release all that blocks me.

Releasing is powerful. When you hold onto something, you create blockages in your life. When you release that which you hold onto, love and light flow. Joy and abundance flow. You are able to move forward with ease and grace.

The full moon phase is an auspicious time to do a releasing ceremony. They can be elaborate or they can be simple. A simple ceremony would look like this: Write down a list of anything you wish to release from your life Ceremoniously burn (in a pot that is designed for fire protection) the paper on the night of the full moon. While doing this, you may wish to call in the archangels or your spirit team, God or the Universe, ask for their support and proclaim what you wish to release.

Some Examples of things you wish to release:

It seems right that the Moon has such a hold on the Earth. After all, isn’t the moon a child of earth? Releasing during the full moon can have a profound impact on what you allow to flow into your life. Are you willing to release that which is blocking you? If so, what will it be? Consider using full moon energy to support you!

  3. The moon – one of my favorite motifs – not just because of releasing and growth and ceremonies, but because of it’s symbolic meanings. My logo has the moon gate – the entry into a garden with mystery, beauty and the pursuit of knowledge. The moon represents feminine energy and unity. The moon is seen by some as the shadow side – the reflection of the sun’s light. Thanks for a beautiful post, Laura, and for reminding us to not only look up and enjoy the moon but also to use it’s energies to heal.

You are correct about the feminine energy!! It has the energy of water ~ fluid and filled with movement!!! Love your points!

  4. Never thought about using the moon as a vehicle for releasing….hmmm! another tool to add to the belt. Thanks for sharing this tip.
Your mother sounds like my own….I have learned from her more in her new plane of existence than when she was physically bound. I wish she’d learned to let go of more. Which is a good lesson for me as well.

  7. I love this post! And – I wanted to share that the root word of ‘clutter’ is ‘Clotter’ – late Middle English (as a verb): variant of dialect clotter ‘to clot,’ – which means to hold back and cause something to STOP flowing. Releasing with the moon’s cycles is an excellent way to stay in flow! Thanks for the inspiration this morning!

  8. Great article, Laura! It is so true, in order to allow more of the good things into your life, you have to let go of what is not serving you. Love it, thank you!

Thank you Kathy!!!! That is the key ~ let go what is not serving you and there in lies the challenge discovering what does not serve you AND having the courage to let it go 🙂

  9. I love the reminder of the power of releasing! Using the energy of the moon cycle is wonderful as it is ever changing reminding us of our ever changing selves. I love Cena’s comment about the root word of clutter – to clot or stop from flowing. Viewing the need to let go from this perspective is very empowering and encourages me to be consistent in my practice! Thank you!

  10. Holy cow! Have I been on a releasing kick the last week… cleaning, editing, giving, writing, meditating, and reading – all things to help me release. It has been beautiful and chaotic AND also around my Dad’s birthday who has been in heaven for 9 years now. Perhaps the moon was pulling me to get it done ! I just went and copied the dates of the next full moons. I am definitely going to do your suggested exercise next month on June 13th 🙂 Thank you!

Great!!!! Tricia ~ two other things about next months full moon. The first is that it’s on a Friday ~ Friday the 13th so if you have any beliefs about this date being one that is unlucky, you can use that power to release burdens. Too, it will be during a Mercury in Retrograde ~ a time when communications is challenged and a time to go inward. So, yes, definitely put it on the calendar and know what you want to release fully. It will be divinely guided!
