How to Discover Underlying Beliefs

Our Belief Systems. They are EVERYTHING. They are what allow us to step forward boldly ~ They are what hold us back in FEAR. Many of our Beliefs we don’t EVEN know about. So How do we shift our beliefs if we don’t even know about them. That’s where we have to become our own soul’s detective and you can Discover These underlying Beliefs easily. Detectives need tools to help and so does your soul.

To Discover Underlying Beliefs we need to have a compass that allows us to follow the path to these beliefs. They are hiding and are often so deeply rooted in our subconscious that it takes not only a compass but a few other tools too! It actually can be a lot of fun.

Creating a Life Line to uncover underlying beliefs.

Creating a Life Line to uncover underlying beliefs.

This weekend, Participants in the Soul Coaching an Initiation Retreat used one such tool on how to discover underlying beliefs. It was about creating a lifeline and seeing what comes up! I’m always amazed at the brilliance of the transformational process people go through when they work to discover their beliefs. I’m amazed at how much people WANT and NEED this to step forward in their own power and abilities. Most of the time, when you do this, you can see how powerful a hold that beliefs that no longer serve you have! What beliefs are you holding onto that have no real meaning in your life any more (if they ever did?)

I did it again myself. I’m on this journey with everyone too~ I just may be a few steps ahead of you!!! 😉 Crazy how the onion keeps revealing itself as you continue to peel it! You can create one yourself by simply beginning to sketch out your life on a piece of paper. And begin to see what elements of fear and how you define yourself are on that paper. This is just one tool to use that will support this process for you.  If you need support in this or discovering any other belief or how to use any other tool, I’m always available for am Awaken & Align Discovery Session.

What tools have you ever used to discover underlying beliefs that were holding you back? What Belief Systems have you discovered that you have let go of or need to let go of in order to step forward?!

  1. Laura – this is a wonderful exercise. I use it with mompreneurs that I coach to chart their own life-story -and reveal where they have experienced the most joyous times. Thanks for sharing it in this way !

That’s a great spin on it ~ using it to find Joy! The first time I ever did this I saw the EXACT reason why i had the episodes of depression that I had. It reveals SO MUCH!!! Thanks for sharing Cena! 🙂

  2. Laura I have noticed with myself in particular is that even when I discover a limiting belief and think I have overcome it… It often shows up again. Those are deep deep rooted beliefs that like you said have many layers… And sometimes that same onion has to peeled a few times to get to the core.

So True ~ Kelly. I was at an 80’s theme party last summer (!) and the songs were taking my right back to college and some of the identity I had given myself then. I so needed to check in on that and release it! So grateful that the tools I use now can do that with such ease and swiftness! 🙂

  3. Laura I love this tool and can see many ways to utilize it! Shining a light onto our limiting beliefs is so empowering and recognizing how they stop up from growing allows us to transform them. I look forward to using this tool and am very grateful that you shared it! Thank you!

  5. I’m totally intrigued! I always find it amazing how much those limiting beliefs can manifest in the physical body and how we move. Another layer of the onion I guess. Thanks for a great article!

Thanks, Susannah! Yes, it is intriguing how many of us have limiting beliefs that we really don’t even know about. AND how
they can manifest in so very many ways: from migraines to joint issues; from ways we speak to ways we react! It’s one of
the reasons I love my work so much~ so many ways to help people move fearlessly forward! 🙂

  6. I agree with your Laura, and the other commenters, the beleifs really do show up in so many ways and in so many different areas of our life. It’s not until we are ready to let go of another layer, that it begins “showing” up for us to deal with, but with a tool like this, I can see that you would have a “head start” on the layers creeping up.

I always wonder just how many layers an onion actually has 🙂

Lisa ~ tools are great ways, when like you say you are ready and willing to discover beliefs to let them come up and if they support you GREAT if not, then the acknowledgment of them is so key to letting them GO!!!!!!! 🙂

  7. Great exercise Laura! When blocks or unpleasant thoughts come up for me, I journal about and try to let the root surface so that I can understand the trigger and then clear it. I love this exercise and I’m going to try it.

  8. It is amazing what you can see from a bird’s eye view of things. Another tool I use is to pay attention the language I use in the conversation in my head about troublesome topics. Noticing patterns in your language can provide powerful insight.

YES, Tiffany!!!! Knowing (and catching) your thought patterns are critical to success and living in-joy~ it’s one of the foundational pieces of the Soul Wise Living Compass ~ glad you are using it 🙂

  9. Thanks for the idea of creating a lifeline, Laura. I know that I should uncover and eliminate limiting beliefs, but that it can be tricky to do solo – we all have our own blind spots. Can’t wait to try the lifeline exercise and see if I can peel a layer or two from this onion:).
