So, the New Moon of last week was all about setting intentions based on aspirations and dreams! Did you do that? I bet it felt good. About a week later, the First Quarter moon appears. But those intentions had better be set strong because the first quarter moon is when we might meet up with things that we had not prepared for.
Just so you know, it is not a quarter moon in appearance but a quarter of the moon between the New and the Full moon. This confusion can also be seen in what the first quarter moon represents. Often times, we will feel the need to make decisions quickly. It is a time of action.
The first quarter moon may feel like a time of tension. Because these decisions need to be made quickly, often times people rely on their cluttered thoughts or emotional bias. Rarely will they take time to check in with their soul to get the ‘right’ answer for them. Remember, the soul knows the truth.
So, during this first quarter moon phase if you feel a bit confused and need to make quicker decisions, it’s imperative to quiet down the mind and pay attention to your inner wisdom rather than emotions or even other people!
I’m in the middle of an office move this weekend. I obviously didn’t look at the moon phase calendar when I made that choice! Moves like this require fast decisions to be made. I’m so glad that I created strong intentions last week for this move ~ that and I’ve already for~warned the movers that I will give them answers but will close my eyes to check in with my inner wisdom before giving them answers!!!! Hopefully, the typical confusion of a first quarter moon phase will be mitigated this way!

Jen ~ my understanding is that moon phases work pretty much the same year round. Though, the full moons can have different manifestations powers depending upon the season of the year!

Gina ~ I often will start a program on a new moon and end one during a full moon. It creates that intention to manifestation cycle!

So true…..Native Americans believe that the element water is associated with our emotional selves. Think about the moon’s pull upon the earth’s water and you can see how it does really play into our emotional selves!!!! 😉

I’m building a novel around the phases of the moon, and knowing that confusion happens during the new moon fits right into the plot structure. Thank you so much for explaining this.
It also fits in with the idea of the maiden, the new woman who is still figuring out who she is, what her life purpose is, and how to be an adult. I have as much of my inner (lazy, teenage) maiden as any crone does…and she does show up at the new moon.

The explanation of first-quarter moon leaves me completely confused. It’s not the quarter moon (see, I got that part). Is it between full and new? or between new and full? Is new when you can’t see anything? or first sliver? or? (Is this the time to admit I don’t know what retrograde means, either?)
I think you need a moon description post you can send confused folks to.

🙂 Lynne ~ I used to be as confused as you too ~ I’ll get a post together for the moon cycles for you ~ and retrograde quickly defined means that the planets orbit ‘looks’ like from the earth that it’s going backwards because of it’s proximity to the sun.
