S is for Silence

The Soul-Wise Living Alphabet

Inspired April 2013

The Soul-Wise Living Alphabet is launched to Awaken Your Spirit & empower your thinking. Words are Energy! They can lift us up and they can just as easily bring us down. Spirit driven words will raise your vibration UP. By finding the meaning these words have in your life and embracing them, one at a time each day ~ after the course of a month, The Soul-Wise Living Alphabet will have raised your energy up. My desire for you is that you are able to embrace your inner spirit  and, as a result, live In-Joy. ~ laura

S is for Silence.

Silence. It’s a rare commodity these days. And rarer still is the person who not only can sit in silence but enjoy it. “Silence is Golden” It used to be used by my teachers to keep us quiet. I also have heard it in referenced to if you don’t have anything good to say, silence is golden. But, for me, Silence IS Golden. For within the Silence, I connect with  the wealth of who I am.

Where can you find silence? I see so many people connected ALL the time. They are tethered to their phones with ear buds to listen to their music or podcasts. They are forever texting or calling people. You must be disconnected to experience true silence.

Silence is difficult to find even when you are sitting in nature away from the connectivity of life. If you are sitting on a mountain top after a climb, you will hear the birds chirping. If you are sitting along a river basin, you can hear the flow of the water. If you are in a meadow, you can hear the grasshoppers. I sit on the deck of a lake often during the summer time at dawn. On very rare (bliss filled) occasions the lake will be so serene and quiet that you feel enveloped in silence. But how often can you do that?

Silence can be achieved even when there is peripheral noise by going deep within. It’s through this type of meditation that you can find pure silence. It’s a practice that takes practice. I have a difficult time getting there. This is one way, in this rare state ~ on the lake, in deep meditation ~ that you can find true peace and deep understanding of who you are and what your purpose is.  Does that mean you can’t achieve this without Silence? No. It means that we must find a space that has silent attributes to it that allow us to endeavor to go within. There, away from life, in the stillness and silence, you can connect with the inner wisdom of your soul.

What do you do to find ‘silence’ in your life? What have you learned from being ‘there’?
